Outreach Goals: Helping Small Businesses

At Speedway Constructors, we agree wholeheartedly with helping smaller businesses get work and be able to use their talents. We are committed to helping these businesses participate in as many jobs as we can. There are many advantages to doing business with minority businesses and helping them achieve long-term success. It can enhance the quality of the competition within the field holding all businesses to a higher quality standard as well as providing opportunities for these groups to make important contributions to the construction industry as a whole.

The overarching group, the DBE includes the following subgroups:

  • Minority Business Enterprise (MBE)a business that engages in commercial transactions and is over 50 percent owned and operated by one or more minority persons. This definition includes African American, Native American, Pacific Islander, and more.
  • Women Business Enterprise (WBE)a business that is at least 51 percent owned and operated by one or more women.
  • Small Business Enterprise (SBE)a business that meets the definition of minority- and/or women-owned business enterprise, and additionally, meets the Small Business Administration’s standards for a small business.
  • Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise (DVBE)is a business that is at least 51 percent owned and operated by one or more disabled veterans.

We All Benefit

Speedway Constructors is committed to increasing participation of these firms in our purchasing and contract business. We make it a point to provide these businesses with opportunities to work with us as suppliers and subcontractors on all construction projects.

Speedway Constructors actively solicits bids from DBE suppliers and subcontractors. Affirmative action is one of several aspects considered along with sensible business practices, reliable procurement guidelines, and applicable laws for all businesses we use. Speedway Constructors also requires our subcontractors to maximize opportunity by including DBE participation whenever possible.
